Chuck Whiting and His Rowdy Friends in Concert

Fri October 11, 2013 7 pm

Genre: Hillbilly Blues and Mid-Western Swing

Chuck Whiting & His Rowdy Friends are a three-piece Western Swing band from Kalamazoo, Michigan. The boys take the traditional sounds of Hank Williams and Bob Wills and combine them with funky guitar licks and a punk rock ethos. They've shared the stage with Wayne Hancock, Lucky Tubb, and Eilen Jewell. Their 2011 album, Calamity, was nominated for two WYCE Jammie Awards (check it out: www.grcmc.org) and received airplay on WYCE and WIDR. The boys are a staple of the Buttermilk Jamboree music festival, where they've performed every year.

The band is fronted by Chuck Whiting, AKA the Honky Tonk Buddha, a seasoned singer/songwriter who has been performing in Michigan, Tennessee, and Texas for the past thirteen years. In 2010, Chuck and his brother started a new band to reflect their appreciation for Texas music, and in 2012, Nick Lancaster joined them on lead guitar. The three have perfected a sound they affectionately refer to as Hillbilly Blues and Midwestern Swing. We hope you enjoy it.
