Sat November 9, 2013 12-4 p.m.
Kick off the holidays with It's Ornamental, November 9, 2013 12-4 pm. Follow the Holiday Parade, which starts at 11 am, to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum for a variety of FREE arts and crafts. From ornaments to gifts you can decorate, there will be something for everyone. Scratch a design in a wreath ornament, weave an Ojo de Dios, paint on a felt leaf, and decorate a wooden picture frame with gems. Create a stained glass window, decorate a picture frame, color and assemble a 3-dimensional butterfly, and make designs on a miniature flashlight. Let your creative juices flow as you draw designs on a calendar, emboss a card, create gift tags, fold origami structures, and build paper chains.
Throughout the afternoon, enjoy sounds of the season provided by the Kalamazoo Children's Chorus. The KCC provides an opportunity for children to learn and perform in an atmosphere of artistic excellence and, by so doing, enrich the artistic life of the community. Originally one chorus, it now consists of five different groups which perform individually as well as together. The Preparatory level consists of students in the 3rd and 4th grades. The Treble level allows students in grades 4th-6th to sing music in two parts. The Concert level for grades 5th through 7th expands to three parts and also includes music in foreign languages. In high school, the music becomes more difficult for the Bel Canto group. Students may also be part of the Touring group which has performed around the world. Make it a full day by checking out the fall exhibit, Wild Music, on the third floor before the parade at 11 am, and then come back to the Museum for music and art!
