Newark. June 11th 1864

My Dear Mother.

I have just asertained that I can have a furlow in a week and if you will lend and send me $20 I will come home. I have over 5 months pay comeing but there is no way to get it. I should like to spend the 4th of July at Kalamazoo and if I can get the money to carry me home and buy a few things I must have (such as) a hat that I have lost & a pair of shoes and a pair of pants. You can do as you choose (and if you do) Send me money I will be carefull and replace it to you as soon as I am able to get my pay. If you do send it do it amediately for I shall want it in a week from this date. I have received no letters from you since I was at the Wilderness. I am doing as well here as I could and think that a good Furlow would just make me all O.K. one of my knees is still in a bad condition to move but I know I shall be able to go home if I should ever get a chance. but I must close now so good by.

This is from your Aff Son
