MarsQuestProduced by Loch Ness Productions Detailed Description: Many cultures have identified Mars as one of their gods, often as their gods of war, represented in the opening sequence of the program. Objects seen in the night sky, including meteors, and comets, and wandering stars or planets are introduced, focusing on the ruddy colored planet, Mars. Descriptions are given of what astronomers were able to see when viewing Mars, including surface markings, polar caps and the planets two moons. A better way of seeing Mars is to examine it from spacecraft that fly-by or land on the planet’s surface. Past missions to Mars are briefly described. Many of the planet’s surface features are examined in detail, including craters, canyons, volcanoes, polar caps, sand dunes. The Martian weather is described including temperature ranges on different parts of the planet, dust storms and dust devils, and the changes in the polar caps as the seasons change. Scientists are now preparing for future missions to the red planet. At sites in the desert or in Arctic and Antarctic regions, explorers are testing methods and equipment to explore and set up scientific research stations on Mars. The program concludes by following future Martian explorers as they explore a new world. Related Internet Sites: |
