Tues. Jan. 7, 1913

OO* Made a terrible brake while I was making a speech on a current topic in English Class today. This morning Prof. Bailey kept me after class to talk and of all the soft words and compliments he poured into my ears. He thinks I’m a fine student and all that things come so easily to me that I’m apt to grow a little careless. I’ve either terrible deceived him by my bluffing or else he doesn’t mind lying a blue streak! It was certainly comical but disgusting to hear him ramble on. This P.M. Helen & Esther came down and we studied Latin all the afternoon then Esther & I studied Math. I didn’t go to the Y.W.C.A. spread and didn’t even eat supper but studied. This evening Ralph came to take me to the B.Y.P.U. meeting we started down the front steps & Ralph lost his footing & went bumpity bump way down the steps. He lost his glasses but after he found them I laughed till I cried. Mamma lost her watch tonight we all feel terribly about it.

[* OO is Claire’s abbreviation for school]
