“Girl Scouting started my collecting when I was 9 years old.”
Joann Germinder of Battle Creek has actively collected Girl Scout memorabilia for the last 10 years. Her interest in collecting began when she was a Girl Scout in 1967. That year she earned the Collectors Badge.
“I remember when my sister was sick and had to go to the doctor and get shots. We would stop by the dime store and pick up a little animal.” Those little glass animals were her first collection. They were displayed at the Museum with some of Joann’s personal Girl Scout memorabilia from her days as a scout – sash with badges, canteen, mess kit, and camp –silverware – along with collectibles that she’s received as gifts or found at flea markets and antique stores.
