The Wizards of Pop: Sabuda and Reinhart

This exhibit is now closed

The Wizards of Pop: Sabuda and Reinhart is an exciting pop-up book exhibit that shows us 63 different framed pieces: 49 framed pieces of artwork, 12 prototypes in acrylic boxes, and 2 oversized pop-ups. The framed artwork consists of various stages of illustrations for several of Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart's published books. The prototypes, along with 2 oversized pop-ups, are made of white cardstock and cut paper, which allows the viewer to see several examples of the engineering that goes into each work.

Several pop-up examples from both Sabuda and Reinhart are displayed in their various stages. The viewer can follow the process from initial concepts in pencil and watercolors to the linoleum blocks used for printing one of the books, printer's sheets, and then, finally, the finished display books.

Examples from each of the following books are represented:

  • The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: A Commemorative Pop-Up Book
  • Young Naturalists Pop-Up Handbook: Beetles
  • Young Naturalists Pop-Up Handbook: Butterflies
  • Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

  • Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Dinosaurs
