Where in the Universe is Carmen Sandiego II
This program is no longer available.
A recruiter for the ACME Spacenet Detective Service calls on the audience to become junior detectives in the agency, whose mission is to protect all kinds of treasures from Carmen Sandiego. Carmen has recently acquired a spaceship and can take anything anywhere around the Milky Way galaxy.
A NASA probe has discovered Carmen’s gang building a force field around the black hole at the heart of the Milky Way. As we reach the site, Carmen and her gang escape to lead us on a chase across the galaxy.
The first destination is a nebula where stars are forming. There, the junior detectives get a clue guiding them to a multiple star system. Before heading out, the types of stars are described, from average stars like the sun through red giants and blue supergiants, and on to red and white dwarfs. Needing more information, the junior detectives learn about multiple stars, before they determine where Carmen is off to next.
The chase leads to dying stars which give off shells of gas called planetary nebulae, and then to galactic and globular star clusters. Through the program, the junior detectives gather an understanding of how stars evolve over time.
The program concludes as the Junior Detectives pursue Carmen back to the black hole at the center of the Milky Way, capture her, and receive a promotion to full detectives.
