Look for Venus

The Planet Venus

Moments after the sun sets, if you can find a very clear Western horizon, like those along the beaches of Lake Michigan, use binoculars to scan the horizon in the west for a star that appears even before the sky is darkened. The star is the Planet Venus, which has recently come from behind the sun to appear in the evening sky until the evening of June 5th, 2012 when it will transit in the sun, an event that will not repeat until December 2117.
